Municipal University Library
The Municipal University Library project came to a completion following a seven-year renovation. The Limassol Municipality and CUT presented the building to the wider public at an event held on 22 December 2017.It should be noted that the Municipal University Library was illuminated following a significant number of years, since the Limassol Municipality in collaboration with the CUT overcame the various problems delaying the completion of the project.
The Municipal University Library, an architectural gem for Limassol consists of a collection of a total of 60.000 volumes, is one of the largest libraries on the island, serving today not only the general reader, but also high school and university students, we well as many foreigners, both visitors and permanent residents of the city. The Library also features a remarkable children’s department.
The Municipal Library of Limassol surely stands out for its essential wealth in Cypriot culture and civilization. There is an entire department dedicated to Cyprus including rare Cypriot publications, old and often complete series of newspapers and magazines – both local and pancyprian – that date as back as the last decades of the 19th century. The Limassol Municipal Library also features the complete, original series of the Limassol magazine “Avgi”.
The Library is systematically and at regular intervals enriched with newspapers, literary journals, scientific journals and Cypriot publications.
