THE CIVITAS DESTINATIONS PROJECT RECEIVES THE ‘GREENING THE ISLANDS 2020 SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY AWARD’

The Limassol Tourism Board is participating since 2016, in the European Project CIVITAS DESTINATIONS. The project, with a budget of 20 million euro, aims to reduce energy consumption, reduce emissions / increase air quality, improve overall urban accessibility, enhance social cohesion, improve cost effectiveness and integration of transport and mobility services for residents and tourists alike. Besides Limassol, partners in the project are Elba, Las Palmas, Funchal, Malta and Rethymno.

On the 6th of December 2020, Civitas Destinations, has been selected as the winner of the “Greening the Islands 2020 Sustainable Mobility Award”, during the European Island Forum. The e-convention featured 15 workshops and 90 qualified speakers from leading corporates and front runner islands. The convention is organized by the GTI Observatory, a global initiative that works to create a network of key stakeholders, committed to self-sufficiency, sustainability, and better living of islands.

This is the third award received by the Civitas Destinations project in 2020, after two awards received during the Urban Mobility Days 2020 event, which is organized on an annual basis by the European Commission.
