The Limassol District Archaeological Museum offers a fascinating journey through thousands of years of history, presenting archaeological finds discovered at sites throughout the Limassol district. Its collections span the period from the Neolithic Age to the Roman period, illustrating the cultural development and everyday life of the communities that inhabited the region. The museum’s exhibits are organised into three main sections. The first presents pottery from different historical periods, while the second includes coins, jewelers, lamps, copper tools and other objects. The third section features sculptures, tombstones, architectural elements, inscriptions and other artefacts made of marble and limestone. Among the collection are also objects associated with the worship of Aphrodite, including votive offerings and female terracotta figurines, highlighting the importance of religious practices in ancient Cyprus. Together, the exhibits provide an insight into the region’s long history, from prehistoric communities and ancient settlements to the flourishing cultures of the Classical, Hellenistic and Roman periods. The museum is also connected with the Aphrodite Cultural Route.
