Located in the historic centre of Limassol, the Municipal and University Library is housed in a restored listed building and forms part of the city’s successful transformation of historic buildings for contemporary public and educational use. The building is associated with the historic Pilavakis Mansion and today serves both the Cyprus University of Technology and the wider community. The library holds a collection of approximately 60,000 volumes and is one of the important library resources in Limassol. Its collections serve students, researchers, residents and visitors, while a dedicated children’s section makes the library accessible to younger readers as well. Beyond its role as a modern library, the building represents an important example of adaptive reuse: a historic structure has been preserved and given a new public function, allowing the architectural heritage of the old city to remain an active part of contemporary urban life. The library is therefore more than a place for books. It is part of the regeneration of Limassol’s historic centre, where education, culture and architectural heritage meet.
