Located close to Limassol’s Medieval Castle and the old harbour, the Old Carob Mill is one of the most distinctive examples of the city’s industrial heritage. Carobs were once among Cyprus’ major export products, and Limassol played an important role in their processing and export. The historic complex dates from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with its buildings constructed and expanded over several decades. The mill was designed around the processing and storage of carobs, which were used to produce a wide range of products, including carob syrup, animal feed and other industrial and food products. The original machinery and architectural character of the complex have been preserved, allowing visitors to appreciate the scale and atmosphere of an important part of Limassol’s industrial past. The proximity of the mill to the old harbour was particularly significant, facilitating the movement and export of carob and other goods. Today, the restored complex has been given new cultural and leisure uses, demonstrating how industrial heritage can be preserved while becoming part of the contemporary life of the city.
